Seasons Change...Change the Mood.

As a renter for most of my life I have had to come up with creative and inexpensive ways to decorate. I don't always have the option to paint. If I do it's usually just the same boring neutral color it was. So, here are some of my ideas to change the mood in any room.

As the seasons change I find myself wanting different colors and moods for my home. In the winter I might go with richer jewel tones and a heavier window treatments than I would for the spring/summer. In the spring I will find lighter pastel or even neon colors and definitely lighter material panels. Sometimes I like to add a solid color curtain with a patterned valance. I love contrasts.

To change ones furniture would be to costly however, changing the color on a sofa or chair can easily be done with new silpcovers. Or just add some decorative and colorful throw pillows. Either one will instantly change the mood.

These have been some of my favorite ways down through the years to change the mood in my homes. Hope that you will find these ideas useful. With fall/winter coming I am working on some different ideas. If I come up with anything exciting I will let you know.

A Tisket A Tasket a Pre-Packaged Gift Basket

One of my favorite gift ideas down through the years has been to personalize a gift baskets. I always found it fun to think of an idea for the gift baskets that would be to the recipient's taste and interests. I also liked to use something besides a basket for my base.

For my daughter's Easter Basket one year I got her the Barbie Jeep stuffing it with grass, eggs and all the Easter candy. She loved it and I had to repeat the basket idea for my niece on her next birthday.

My sister-in-law is a real wine connoisseur and enjoys a good wine gift basket. However, most wine gift baskets I have ran across have not had the wine glasses in them. But it makes the basket just a bit more personal when you do add something personal.

I use to enjoy putting the gift baskets together from scratch but it did involve time. I thought it had to be made that way to add the personal touch for each person I was making them for. However, I now have no problems finding an already pre-packaged gift baskets and then finding one or two items and that will give it the personal touch I like to see.

Flashback to...

My junior high years and avocado shag carpet. I ran across an article about new trends in shag carpet and was immediately sent back a few years.
My sister is 15 years older than me. One summer I stayed with her to help babysit my nieces. My sister ran her own hair salon from her basement so she was near. I helped keep my 2 nieces upstairs and also helped with cooking and cleaning.
Along with her living room, there was another room upfront of the house that had shag carpet. It was part of mine and my older niece's duty to vacuum this shag carpet daily. Now that does not sound so bad but my sister is a super clean freak! Vacuuming would have been easy but no. Vacuuming consisted of: first a quick vacuum…then raking with a special shag carpet rake…vacuuming again and again. This process was done not just once a day but up to three times a day depending on my sister’s level of cleanliness.
In the rest of the house there were hard wood floors with various area rugs about. However you did not want to step on them as her floors were shined and polished and you would slip and slide on the rugs.
I have seen pictures of these new shag carpets and they do look softer and come in a larger variety of colors. I am also sure that with today’s carpets being made from different materials that the care will be a lot easier. Well, depending on if your sister is compulsive or not.
